D.O.B 1983
Studied Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University 2003 – 2006
A British Born Chinese artist of Hakka descent, Tim Lee currently lives and works in London.
“My interest in Art began from an early age, I don’t recall ever being away from a pen and paper in my life. I come from a family that is very artistic, both my uncles are well respected in their fields of Pottery and Fine art, and my great grandfather (Lee Chung) gained notable attention in Hong Kong for his child-like drawings in his 80’s.”
Tim’s work began to take shape in 2008 when he began a series of monochromatic Chinese ink drawings on traditional rice paper. Coming from a background in illustration, it was a need to create work that had more depth and resonance to him personally that has inspired his current body of work.
Combining a love of Chinese history (especially the Qing and Tang dynasties) with knowledge of western art, his work is a fascinating dichotomy of cultures reflecting Tim’s complex issue of identity, one in which he is in a constant state of flux.
